HC Deb 24 May 1974 vol 874 c283W
Mr. Robert Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will seek to obtain from local education authorities the number of places and number of scholarships obtained at Oxford and Cambridge Universities from comprehensive schools in each year from 1963 to 1973.

Mr. Armstrong

No; but information already collected suggests that the numbers of pupils leaving comprehensive schools to enter Oxford and Cambridge Universities rose from a figure of under 50 in 1963 to about 500 in 1972. Almost all of these will have had local education authority awards.
