HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 c223W
Mr. Wyn Roberts

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the product of different forms of central Government taxation in Wales; and where no such estimates are possible, if he will specify the areas of revenue concerned.

Mr. Dell

No precise estimate is possible, but on the basis of the ratio of Welsh revenues to total revenues used in "a Welsh Budget" published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in 1972 it is estimated that in 1972–73 revenue from central Government taxes on transactions in Wales was as follows:

£million
Direct taxes* 305
Indirect taxes† 325
630
* Inland Revenue taxes less stamp duty.
† Customs and Excise taxes, vehicle excise duty, selective employment tax and stamp duty.
