HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 c228W
Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners have been transferred from prisons in England and Wales to Northern Ireland since 1970, to the nearest date for which figures are available in 1974: and if he will give details.

Dr. Summerskill

There have been seven such transfers. Details of the offences and sentences are as follows:

tion of young offenders in places like Risley, Warrington; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

Risley is the only remand centre which holds male adult as well as young offenders. It provides separate accommodation and special facilities for the latter. As I understand that my hon. Friend is particularly concerned about persons under the age of 17, I am writing to him about the circumstances in which they may be held in a remand centre on committal by the courts.
