HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 c216W
40. Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take further steps to ensure future supplies of beef and pig meat in view of the high slaughter rate of calves and sows and boars.

Mr. Buchan

The special payments to pig producers which my right hon. Friend introduced at the end of March represent a substantial measure to assist producers and to encourage continuing supplies of pork and bacon. My right hon. Friend announced yesterday that the 50p per score rate of subsidy is to continue until he has been able to discuss the situation with his colleagues in the EEC Council of Ministers. Regarding beef, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Isle of Wight (Mr. Ross) on 9th May.—[Vol. 873 c.232.]
