HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 cc242-3W
Mr. Clemitson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many young people between the ages of 16 and 19 are released from their employments for educational purposes, either on a day-release or block-release basis; and what percentage of the total number in that age group in employment this figure represents.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

351,800 young people between 16 and 19 were enrolled at further education establishments in England and Wales in November 1972 on a day-release or block-release basis. It is estimated that this number represents between 20 and 25 per cent. of the total in that age group who were in employment.
