HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 c257W
Mr. Neubert

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what proportion of the world's supply of copper is mined in Chile; what proportion of Great Britain's imports of copper comes from that country; and what are the present alternative sources of supply.

Mr. Deakins

In 1973 Chile accounted for about 10 per cent. of world mine production of copper, and about 19 per cent. of United Kingdom imports of blister and refined copper. Apart from Chile, the main copper producers outside Eastern Europe are the United States, Canada, Zambia, Zaire, Peru, Philippines and Australia, including Papua New Guinea.
