§ Mr. Loveridgeasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he can now state what plans he has to introduce legislation to make compulsory the wearing of seat belts in the front seats of cars.
§ Mr. MulleyIn the Road Traffic Bill, which was introduced in another place on 15th May, I am seeking powers to introduce compulsory wearing of seat belts by means of regulations. If these powers are enacted I shall consult with various interests on the form of these regulations, and in particular on the need to exempt some groups from them.
