HC Deb 22 May 1974 vol 874 c207W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on his recent meeting with Dr. Fitzgerald, the Foreign Minister of the Irish Republic, and specify what affairs relating to Northern Ireland were discussed.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I met Dr. Fitzgerald in Dublin on Monday 16th May. We discussed the publication of the report of the Law Enforcement Commission and a number of questions arising from the commission's recommendations. This was one of a series of meetings about the report which I and my right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney-General have had with the Northern Ireland administration and with members of the Irish Government.

I also took the opportunity to discuss with Dr. Fitzgerald a number of other matters mentioned in the Sunningdale communiqué, and the security situation.
