17., asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a further statement about Great Britain's relationship with Portugal.

Mr. Selby

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what official communications he has had with the new Government in Portugal.

Mr.Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on relations with Portugal, in the light of the overthrow of the former regime.

Mr. Ennals

We recognised the new regime in Portugal on 2nd May and have entered into normal working contacts with it. We welcome its introduction of civil liberties and its promise of free elections within a year. We look forward to having good relations with the new appointed Government.
