§ Mr. Corrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the provisions relating to responsibility for safety that would apply to a petrochemical development at Hunterston, and for liability for compensation in case of an accident affecting the people of the area.
§ Mr. William RossRelevant provisions are contained in the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act 1928, which governs storage, and in the Factories Act 1961, which governs operations. There are a number of other statutory provisions which might apply—e.g., Clean Air Acts 1956 and 1968; Offices Shops and Railways Premises Act 1963; Occupiers' Liability (Scotland) Act 1960; Rivers (Prevention of Pollution) (Scotland) Acts 1951 and 1965; Public Health (Scotland) Act 1897. The general law of reparation for damage to persons or property would apply.
