HC Deb 22 May 1974 vol 874 c198W
Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will extend the provisions of Section 17 of the Hydrocarbon Oil (Customs and Excise) Act 1971 to provide relief from duty in respect of fuel used in lifeboats other than those belonging to the RNLI.

Dr. Gilbert

I have been asked to reply.

No. The position regarding fuel used in rescue vessels other than lifeboats belonging to the RNLI has been carefully and sympathetically examined, but, partly in view of the difficulties of defining reasonable and practicable limits for relief, the conclusion has been reached that the present provisions cannot be extended.
