HC Deb 21 May 1974 vol 874 c69W
19. Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will consider arranging for interim awards of compensation to be paid to those members of the Armed Forces injured on service in Northern Ireland who have been waiting for such payments for more than six months.

Mr. Mason

The courts already make interim payments, and it is open to a claimant to apply to the court for an interim payment at any time.

27. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many members of Her Majesty's Forces have been seriously wounded during the past six years in Northern Ireland; of these, how many have made a claim for compensation against the Northern Ireland Office; and what is the number of outstanding claims which have been registered for more than 12 months.

Mr. Mason

Since 1969, when the Army commenced its operations, out of 1,200 Service men who have received injuries needing hospital treatment, 177 have been placed on the seriously ill list. All of those seriously injured have made claims. The number of these claims which have been outstanding for more than 12 months is 76.
