Mr. Clemitson asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to extend the comprehensive principle in education to the 16 to 18 age group; and if he will make a statement.

My right hon. Friend has already indicated that he expects local education authorities and the governors of voluntary schools to secure the abolition of selection at all stages of secondary education. The only criterion for admission to a course at 16 years should be the pupil's ability to benefit from it.
