asked the Secretary of State for Trade what was the United Kingdom's balance of trade position in relation to the present European Economic Community countries in 1972 and in1973; and what was the United Kingdom's balance of trade position in relation to countries other than the present EEC members in 1972 and 1973.

Mr. Deakins

The trade deficit with the other countries of the European Economic Community was £532 million in 1972 and £1,119 million in 1973; for the rest of the world the corresponding figures were £145 million and £1,256 million, respectively.
