Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will make a statement on the circumstances of the recent fire at Scalebor Hospital, Burley-in-Wharf dale; and if she will ask the hospital authorities to inform her of any lessons that have been learnt from this fire which might be of general application.

The outbreak of fire on Ward M4 at Scalebor Park Hospital which occurred at 0.45 hours on 10th May 1974 involved 42 patients, all of whom were evacuated without injury. Investigations by the fire service to determine the exact cause of the fire have not yet been completed.

Health authorities are required to report all fires which result in loss of life, injury, disturbance to patients or damage to hospital property. These reports are evaluated and any information which they reveal which might prevent, or reduce the
