§ Dr. J. Dickson Mabonasked the Secretary of State for Energy what advice is currently available to him regarding the suitability of designs of production platforms for the offshore oil industry; and in particular if he will indicate what use he has made of the Marine Technology Support Unit in this connection.
§ Mr. StrangA wide range of advice on this subject is available to us both from within Government Departments and research establishments and from contacts with the private sector, including independent consultants. My right hon. § Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Energy whether, having visited Dundee, he will make a statement on the position of Dundee in the development of Scotland's offshore oil resources.
§ Mr. VarleyDuring my visit to Dundee on 22nd-23rd April I was impressed with the facilities at the harbour and with the enthusiasm of the officials of local and development authorities who are seeking to promote the use of Dundee to support offshore oil related activities. My Department will continue to bring Dundee to the attention of companies seeking sites for projects for which it is suitable.
