HC Deb 20 May 1974 vol 874 cc41-2W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of people on hospital waiting lists

HOSPITAL MEDICAL AND DENTAL CONSULTANTS (WHOLE-TIME EQUIVALENTS)
PER 100,000 (AS AT 30TH SEPTEMBER)
1969 1970 1971 1972 1973
England 16.5 17.0 18.4 19.0 20.0

per 1,000 population in the area served by the Nottinghamshire Area Health Authority (Teaching); and how this compares with the national average.

Dr. Owen

In December 1972, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 10.94 people per 1,000 population on hospital waiting lists in the area now served by Nottinghamshire AHA(T). The corresponding average figure for England was 10.39.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average length of waiting lists for the admission of non-emergency cases to Nottingham General Hospital; and to what extent these lists have been shortened over the past five years.

Dr. Owen

Total patients awaiting no emergency admission to Nottingham General Hospital over the past five years are as follows:

31st March 1970 1,535
31st March 1971 1,740
31st March 1972 1,701
31st March 1973 2,753
31st March 1974 2,000

The waiting list increased substantially in 1973 in Nottingham as elsewhere as a result of industrial action.
