§ Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a general direction limiting the size and cost of cars purchased by water authorities at the ratepayers' expense for the official use of chairmen, chief executives and directors.
§ Mr. Tylerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is his policy towards the staff establishment and salary of water authorities;
(2) if he will issue a general direction limiting the provision of free cars and cheap mortgages to executives of water authorities;
(3) what is his policy towards the provision of special fringe benefits for senior executives in the new local councils and water authorities.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThese are matters of internal management for these authorities subject to the Pay Code and any views about the salaries of staff which may be expressed by the Pay Board.
§ Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he proposes to use his powers to impose limits on the size of water authorities' provisions for contingencies and reserves, and the speed at which such reserves are accumulated, in order to limit increase in rates for water, sewerage and sewage disposal and charges for metered water supply.
§ Mr. Denis HowellI shall be discussing these matters with water authorities during the course of 1974–75 in the light of the probable outturn for that year.
