Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what will be the loss in global terms to the new Macclesfield Borough Council as a result of the recently announced changes in the administration of the Government's rate support grant.

Mr. Oakes

My right hon. Friend's decision to change from a variable to a flate-rate distribution of domestic rate relief resulted in a loss of grant to Macclesfield of £479,071, a reduction from 17p to 13p in the pound.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what will be the loss in global terms to the new Congleton Borough Council as a result of the recently announced changes in the administration of the Government's rate support grant.

My right hon. Friend's decision to change from a variable to a flat-rate distribution of domestic rate relief resulted in a loss of grant to Congleton of £289,544, a reduction from 19p to 13p in the pound.

Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representation he has received in connection with the reduction in the domestic element of the rate support grant to the county of Cheshire.

My right hon. Friend has received a number of letters on this subject from Cheshire County Council and from district councils within that county.
