Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what, from their deposited accounts, was the total amount paid by trade unions in political subscriptions for the most recent year for which figures are available.

The latest available figures relate to 1972, when members of trade unions paid a total of £1,431,000 in contributions to their union's political fund.
