HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 c590W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether in Cornwall midwives, nurses and health visitors, who in the past have been allowed loans at favourable interest rates for the purchase of cars through the county council, will now be able to obtain the same facility through the health authority only up to 31st March 1975; and whether because of this she anticipates difficulties in recruiting suitable employees.

Dr. Owen

Interim arrangements have been made for the continuation of a system of loans for car purchase for classes of staff who were previously entitled to this facility. Recruitment needs will be borne in mind in formulating longer-term arrangements.

Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in Cornwall, midwives, nurses and health visitors, who in the past have been allowed to use county council cars for private purposes on payment of the appropriate amount, will now not be allowed to use health authority cars on the same terms if the date of their employment is after 31st March 1974; and whether, because of this, she anticipates difficulties in recruiting suitable employees.

Dr. Owen

Interim arrangements have been made to allow community nurses and others who are provided with official cars for the performance of their duties to be able to use these vehicles for private purposes in appropriate circumstances whether their appointment took place before or after 1st April 1974. Recruitment needs will be borne in mind in deciding longer-term arrangements.
