asked the Secretary of State for Energy what figures are available as to the percentage differences between the pithead price of coal and the amounts charged to the domestic consumer.

Average pithead realisation for all grouped house coal is about £9.60 a ton. Retail prices for house coal vary widely throughout the country according to the distance from the coalfields. An average figure would be about £18 a ton. The average percentage difference is thus about 90 per cent.
