HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 c270W
Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection in which areas of the United Kingdom the extra charge of 1p per loaf is imposed because of transport costs.

Mr. Maclennan

According to my information there are no areas in which an extra charge of 1p per loaf is made purely because of transport costs. In parts of North and West Wales, Northern Scotland and North Devon ½p is added to the price of some loaves for this reason. A price differential of 1p may however exist in the case of premium loaves, door-to-door deliveries or bread baked by master bakers.
