I took the chair of the first council meeting after the Budget. In a wide-ranging and useful discussion of the Budget and the industrial outlook, considerable common ground was revealed on the need for co-operative action by the Government and both sides of industry to maximise the use of resources and output with a shift towards exports and to reduce the expected rate of inflation.
