HC Deb 02 May 1974 vol 872 cc540-1W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) what is the number of current inquiries for new factories or factory extensions in the North-West and on Merseyside, respectively; and what prospective employment is involved;

(2) what is the number of current inquiries for new factories or factory extensions in the Ormskirk constituency generally and Kirkby specifically; and what prospective employment is involved.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

we have no complete information about inquiries for factories and extensions in the region because industrial development certificates are not required in development areas. However, during April the Department's regional office received 57 inquiries representing nearly 7,000 jobs initially for factory premises and sites in the region. Similar inquiries will also have been made in most cases in other regions, and in some cases other countries. The attention of inquirers is drawn to Merseyside and a selection of locations there and in other parts of the region is suggested. Records of inquiries for specific locations are not available.
