HC Deb 02 May 1974 vol 872 c527W
Mr. Cyril Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to provide compensation payments for people living within a defined radius of British airports.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The Land Compensation Act 1973 already contains provision for compensation to be paid in certain circumstances when the value of property has been depreciated as a result of aircraft noise. Extension of the existing provisions in the Act, for example in the way proposed in the recently published Noise Advisory Council Report on the routing of aircraft on depatrure, has potentially far-reaching implications which may well present substantial difficulties. This aspect of the report will require the most careful consideration.
