HC Deb 01 May 1974 vol 872 c494W
Mr. Woodhouse

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will now institute a review of the Salmon Report with a view to improving the career structure of the nursing profession.

Dr. Owen

No. A progress report on the working of the Salmon structure, published last year by my Department and the Welsh Office, considered that there were quite definite benefits to nurses from the clearer career pattern, including opportunities to use their clinical experience over a wider sphere.

I am, however, looking into the question of ensuring that a nurse who wishes to use her clinical expertise by remaining involved in practical ward nursing should be able to have a satisfactory career outlet.
