HL Deb 01 May 1974 vol 351 cc189-90WA
LORD HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will arrange that Annual Reports and Statements of Expenditure in respect of the Voluntary Services Unit and the Urban Deprivation Unit in the Home Office will be laid before Parliament.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, HOME OFFICE (LORD HARRIS OF GREENWICH)

These two administrative Units form integral parts of the Community Programmes Department of the Home Office and as such they report to my right honourable friend the Home Secretary and myself in the ordinary course of their day to day work. Their expenditure is, similarly, subject to the normal constraints on Government expenditure, and it is authorised annually by the process of Estimates. In these circumstances my right honourable friend does not consider that there is a case for arranging, exceptionally, for these Units to render Annual Reports which could be laid before Parliament.

House adjourned at four minutes before seven o'clock.
