HC Deb 01 May 1974 vol 872 c471W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the recent trend in costs and output of Channel Islands milk; what evidence he has of demand outstripping supply; and if he will free the price from statutory control.

Mr. Buchan

Costs have shown an upward trend. Supplies of Channel Islands milk for liquid consumption under the trade's premium contract arrangements have shown a downward trend since 1966. We understand available supplies were more than sufficient to meet the trade's requirements for this particular type of milk until last winter when suppliers were unable to meet some orders in certain parts of the country. We have no plans for removing price control from this type of milk.
