HC Deb 29 March 1974 vol 871 cc224-5W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will indicate the stopping distances of each size of road haulage vehicle under load, including trailers, when travelling at 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mph, respectively.

Mr. Mulley

The information requested is not available for all sizes of heavy vehicles. However the minimum legal braking performance requirements for heavy vehicles and trailers is prescribed in regulations in terms of braking efficiency which must not be less than 0.5.

The equivalent stopping distances are as follows:

which lie within 300 metres of a motorway.

Mr. Carmichael

I regret that the information is not readily available.

Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many observations were made at Perry Beeches and Great Barr, Birmingham, on Fridays between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in order to prepare the noise contour map for the M6.

Mr. Carmichael

None. The prediction method of calculating noise levels is being used.

Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects the noise contour map for the M6 motorway at Perry Beeches and Great Barr, Birmingham, to be published.

Mr. Carmichael

Within three months, it is hoped.
