HC Deb 29 March 1974 vol 871 cc229-30W
Mr. Woodhouse

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what estimate she has made of the number of disabled drivers, other than war pensioners, now running three-wheel vehicles, or receiving an annual allowance instead, who would, on the basis of Baroness Sharp's Report on Mobility of Physically Disabled People, become eligible neither for a car nor for an allowance.

reduction in the allocation of funds available to the service and the withdrawal of any charge to patients.

Dr. Owen

The recent reductions in public expenditure applied across the whole field of health services. In the past, local health authorities had discretionary powers to charge for chiropody and to exempt from charges, and practice varied widely; some authorities did not charge at all. Income from chiropody charges was small and uneconomic to collect. Those who use this service are those least able to pay charges. We are about to issue guidance to the new health authorities on the provision of chiropody services.
