HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 cc92-4W
Mr. Stainton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is now in a position to make a statement about steps to alleviate the financial difficulties of pig farmers.

Mr. Peter Morrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to be able to anounce the outcome of his discussions with the leaders of the pig-producing industry about the problems which the industry faces.

Mr. Buchan

I refer the hon. Members to the statement my right hon. Friend made yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Stainton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will meet a deputation of Suffolk pig farmers with the hon. Member for Sudbury and Woodbridge to learn of their difficulties, in view of the fact that the county possesses 8 per cent. of the United Kingdom's pig stock.

Mr. Peart

The action I announced yesterday to assist pig producers should have done much to relieve the difficulties referred to. I am always willing to meet deputations whenever possible, but in view of my announcement the hon. Member may not now wish to press for an early meeting.
