HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 cc100-1W
Mr. Money

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in the light of his recent statement that his Department's postponed public exhibition of alternative routes for the Ipswich southern bypass will now not take place until late spring, he will now release publication of the alternative routes for public consideration before the holding of the exhibition.

Mr. Carmichael

No. The exhibition forms an integral part of the public consultation procedure.

Mr. Money

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will provide grants to assist with the introduction of double glazing for the residents of Felixstowe Road, Bixley Road, Heath Road, Colchester Road, Valley Road, Chervallier Street, Ranelagh Road, Burrell Road and Bishops Hill, Ipswich, pending the construction of the Ipswich southern bypass.

Mr. Carmichael

This scheme is still at an early stage but, when the line of the route has been determined, the aim will be to provide noise insulation, where this is considered to be justified and in line with the provisions of the Regulations made under the Land Compensation Act 1973, before construction starts.

Mr. Stainton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the public consultative procedures on the Ipswich southern bypass will now take place; and what programme he envisages for commencement and completion of this project.

Mr. Carmichael

In the late spring, subject to the availability of suitable accommodation. This scheme has not yet reached the stage when its timing can be determined.
