HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 c103W
Mrs. Lena Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to prohibit the demolition of buildings other than with planning consent.

Mr. John Silkin

The Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1972 already enables control over demolition of particular buildings in a conservation area to be exercised by a local planning authority.

I am aware of widespread concern that demolition generally should be brought under planning control and I am asking Mr. Dobry to consider this further in his final report.
