HC Deb 25 March 1974 vol 871 cc5-6W
35. Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received about the water charges proposed by the Welsh Water Authority; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris

I have received representations from right hon. and hon. Members, local authorities, the Farmers' Union of Wales and other bodies.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has received a memorandum from the Farmers' Union of Wales concerning the discrepancy between the charges for metered water supply per 1,000 gallons in areas of wales served by the Severn-Trent Water Development Authority and areas served by the Welsh National Water Development Authority; and if he will take action to redress the situation.

Mr. John Morris

The General Secretary of the Farmers' Union of Wales has written to me about increased water charges proposed for 1974–75 and their effect on the agricultural industry. The Chairman of the Welsh National Water Development Authority has told me that he will recommend to the authority that the proposed charges for 1974–75 should be modified so that in no area will the charge to metered consumers exceed 50p per 1,000 gallons.
