§ Mr. Fauldsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will extend the present control on business rents beyond the end of May, bearing in mind the repercussions that any major increase this year would have on small firms.
§ Mr. CroslandI would refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed (Mr. Beith) on 20th March.—[Vol. 870, c.109.]
22Wwould have been at the rate of 16.5p and 16p in the pound respectively; under my right hon. Friend's new rate support grant proposals domestic relief in each will be 13p in the pound. These changes would be equivalent to some £64,000 in Eden and £157,000 in South Lakeland, in terms of domestic rate burdens; or £,1.53 and £1.70 per head of population. Non-domestic ratepayers are not affected by the new proposal.
