Mr. Jessel

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many persons in the United Kingdom pay personal income tax and/or investment income surcharge on their incomes in each of the following ranges, or some other calculable but roughly equivalent ranges of income; and what is the estimated total income and tax yield in 1973–74 for each such range:—£3,000 to £4,000, £4,000 to £5,000, £5,000 to £10,000, £10,000 to £20,000, £20,000 to £30,000, £30,000 to £50,000, and over £50,000.
