§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Industry what arrangements are available through the EEC for assisting redundant British steel workers.
§ Mr. MeacherArticle 56 of the Treaty of Paris enables the European Commission to share with member Governments on certain conditions up to half the net cost of providing financial assistance to steel workers, engaged in the production of products embraced by the treaty, who lose or have to change their jobs or who undergo retraining. By way of indirect assistance the same Article provides for loans by the Commission towards industrial projects capable of absorbing redundant steel workers. Under Article 46 of the same treaty assistance can be provided towards studies of re-employment possibilities for redundant steel workers.
