HC Deb 22 March 1974 vol 870 c202W
Mr. Spence

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection by how much food has increased in price to the housewife in each year since United Kingdom accession to the European Economic Community; and how much of the increase in each year is due to membership of the EEC.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The United Kingdom Retail Price Index for Food rose by 20.1 per cent. over the period January 1973 to January 1974. The increase attributable to our membership of the EEC is currently estimated to be between ½ per cent. and 1 per cent.
