HC Deb 21 March 1974 vol 870 cc173-4W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will not proceed further with the setting up of a films register.

Mr. Deakins

I am reluctant to anticipate at this stage what further contribution the United Kingdom can make to future discussion of this Community

1963 =100
1964 1965 1966 1967 1968
Wales 111.0 114.4 115.0 116.8 125.5
United Kingdom 108.3 111.7 113.2 113.9 119.8

1970=100
Third quarter
1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 1973
Wales 96.0 96.4 100.0 99.6 106.0 111.9
United Kingdom 97.2 99.9 100.0 100.5 102.1 110.9
The Table shows that, between 1964 and 1968, the Welsh index rose by 14.5 points, as compared with a rise of 11.5 points nationally. The United Kingdom index was recently rebased on 1970: the index for Wales, currently based on 1968 has been mechanically adjusted to a 1970 basis. The adjusted index shows a rise of 11.9 points for Wales between 1970 and the third quarter of 1973* as compared with a rise of 10.9 points nationally.

proposal or whether such discussions would be likely to result in a scheme which the United Kingdom would find acceptable.
