HC Deb 20 March 1974 vol 870 c91W
34. Mr. Ian Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what the economic effects of the three-day week have been on Scotland.

Mr. William Ross

It is too early to make a full assessment, but the three-day week resulted in a substantial increase in unemployment, short-time working, loss of wages and loss of production. Now that the Government have got industry back to full-time working, we are making every effort to minimise the consequences to the Scottish economy.
