HC Deb 20 March 1974 vol 870 c94W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will introduce legislation to amend the Scottish law on divorce.

Mr. William Ross

Successive Governments have taken the view that, because of the social and moral questions involved, divorce law reform is a matter more suitable for legislation introduced by a private Member than for Government legislation. This Government are willing to consider giving drafting assistance to any private Member who brings forward a measure which is on generally acceptable lines.
