HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 cc58-9W
27. Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many men have been unemployed for six months or over in South Shields at the latest available date; and how many of these fall in the comparable age brackets under 30, 30 to 50, and over 50, respectively.

Mr. John Fraser

During the recent emergency situation it has not been possible to compile the normal detailed analysis by age and length of time unemployed. On 9th July 1973, the most recent date for which the figures are available, 1.008 males in South Shields were unemployed for over 26 weeks. Of these, 174 were aged under 30, 263 were aged 30 to 49 and 571 were 50 and over.
