§ Mr. John FraserDuring the recent emergency situation it has not been possible to compile the normal detailed analysis by age and length of time unemployed. On 9th July 1973, the most recent date for which the figures are available, 1.008 males in South Shields were unemployed for over 26 weeks. Of these, 174 were aged under 30, 263 were aged 30 to 49 and 571 were 50 and over.
