§ Mr. William RossI am responsible, or jointly responsible with other Ministers, for making over 400 paid appointments, and the detailed information on salaries and membership which the hon. Member has requested is not readily available in comprehensive form. If the hon. Member will let me know of any category in which he is particularly interested I will try to assist him.
§ Mr. Sillarsasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the public posts in Scotland presently vacant and for which he has the responsibility for making appointments.
§ Mr. William RossThe main executive bodies to which I make paid appointments are the two Scottish Electricity 87W Boards, the Scottish Transport Group, the Highlands and Islands Development Board, the Scottish Special Housing Association and the five new town development corporations. The membership of these bodies is fully taken up, except in the case of Glenrothes New Town Development Corporation where the present membership of nine is one below the maximum permitted by statute.
There are more than 400 other bodies to which I make appointments and if my hon. Friend will let me know of any further category in which he is particularly interested I shall be glad to try to be of assistance.
