HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 c76W
Mr. Moate

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to ensure immediate improvement in cash returns to pig producers including the abolition of monetary compensation amounts currently payable on pigmeat imported from the EEC.

Mr. Peart

I have nothing to add to the replies I gave to Questions from the hon. Member for Oswestry (Mr. Biffen) on 15th March.—[Vol. 870, c.5–6.]

Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the National Farmers' Union regarding the difficulties facing pig farmers; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Peart

Since taking office I have had discussions with the President and other representatives of the National Farmers' Union on a number of subjects including the problems facing pig producers. The representatives of the National Farmers' Union have impressed upon me their view that early assistance should be given to pig producers. I am urgently considering the position of the pig industry taking full account of these representations.
