HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 cc61-2W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the figures he has agreed with the National Dock Labour Board for the increase in the number of registered dock workers, port by port, the limitations he has placed upon recruitment, the conditions he has laid down to redress the age balance, and the provision he has made for the introduction of an apprenticeship scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Fraser

The National Dock Labour Board has the statutory responsibility for recruitment of dock workers. It is therefore for the board to decide the numbers to be recruited and the conditions which should govern this. I understand that the industry's national joint council is considering a training scheme for young entrants.
