§ Mr. ArmstrongAn annual capitation grant of £79 is at present payable by the Department in respect of each pupil aged 11–19, together with a further £84 in respect of each pupil in the sixth form; on average these grants amount to about £100 a pupil. The total grant paid during the financial year 1973–74 will be about £10 million. In addition the Department expects to pay about £1.9 million towards the cost of tuition fees for day pupils whose parents cannot afford the full fee; averaged over all the pupils this amounts to just under £2 a pupil.
