asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many tons of timber of various types were imported into the United Kingdom in 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970 and 1973; and what was the cost of such timber in each of those years.

Tonnage figures for imported timber are not collected, but quantity figures using various measurements, together with values, are available from published sources. Figures up to 1970 appear in Vol. I of the appropriate Annual Statement of Overseas Trade and for 1973 in the December issue of the monthly Overseas Trade Statistics. For 1970 and 1973 the information is recorded under SITC(R) 241, 242 and 243 in Table II and Table III respectively; and for 1965 under Division 24 in Table 6. Imports for the two earlier years were recorded on a slightly different basis and appear under heading, B4 in Table 11.
