asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he took to prevent the export of the Thomas Heywood manuscript "Tom a Lincoln", in view of the fact that the period of refusal of licence to export by the review- ing committee expired on Monday 11th March.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and I are satisfied that as an offer to purchase has been made by a public collection there is at present no case for the issue of an export licence.
