HC Deb 15 March 1974 vol 870 cc8-9W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how much work remains to be done in modernising the facilities at RAF Brawdy; and when he expects the base to be fully operational.

Mr. John

Shortages of materials resulting from the three-day working week have delayed some parts of the essential work at RAF Brawdy which are vital to the safe operation of fast jet aircraft. The planned date for the deployment of the Tactical Weapons Unit from RAF Chivenor to RAF Brawdy has slipped accordingly. We cannot predict how quickly the supply of materials will return to normal and it is, therefore, difficult to forecast exactly when the necessary work will be completed, but it is expected that the Tactical Weapons Unit will be fully operational at RAF Brawdy by mid-September.
